Privacy policy.

ReMint is a trading name of iMint Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 16681436. We buy used devices, and we need remarkably little personal information to do it.

What we collect

• Your name and email address, to manage your order and pay you.
• Your mobile number, if you give us one. It is optional, and we use it to text you about your own trade-in: when your postage pack posts, when your phone lands, when you are paid.
• Your date of birth, to confirm you are 18 or over, because we only buy from adults. It is kept with your order and used for nothing else, unless the law requires it, for example when a phone turns out to be reported stolen.
• Your business name, if you sell as a business, and its VAT number if it is VAT registered, for your receipt and VAT invoice.
• Details of your device, including the IMEI, to verify and identify it.
• Your bank details, used only to pay you.
• Your order history and our messages with you, to resolve any issues.
• Your email address, if you ask us to email you a quote: we use it to send that one email, keep the request (with a scrambled form of your internet address) for 30 days to stop the form being misused, then delete it, and it is never used for marketing.
• Your internet address, briefly, when you create an account or when you look up your address on the order form. We use it only to count attempts from one connection and stop those two forms being hammered, keep it for up to seven days, then delete it automatically. It is tied to no account and is never used for marketing.
• How the site is used, counted by us: which pages are opened, whether the screen is a phone or a computer, roughly how wide it is, which browser it is, which country the visit came from and a rough area inside it, and which site or link brought you here. The area is worked out from the network your request came in on, never from your device, and it is rounded to a grid square about ten kilometres across, so it is somewhere near a town and never a street. All of it is tied to a random key that lasts as long as your visit, not to you, and it is not joined to your name or your email. We do it to see which pages work and where people get stuck. This part uses no cookies and happens whichever way you answer the banner.
• The same sort of thing counted by Google Analytics, but only if you say yes to analytics cookies on the banner. Then Google sets a cookie holding a random number for your browser, so a visit is counted as one visit and a return a week later is recognised as the same browser. It holds nothing about who you are, it is never joined to your name, your email or your order, and the cookie policy says what it is called and how long it lasts. Say no, or never answer, and no such cookie is set.

What we deliberately do not do

• No marketing without asking. Ordering does not subscribe you to anything; there is a box you can tick if you would like price alerts and offers, it is off by default, and you can untick it any time from your account.
• No marketing texts unless you asked for those separately. Email and text are two different boxes, both off by default, because agreeing to hear from us in one place is not agreeing to hear from us in another. Marketing texts only ever go to people who ticked the text box and gave us a number, every one of them says how to stop, and replying STOP takes you off the list straight away and for good, whether or not you have an order with us.
• No advertising trackers, and no analytics cookies, unless you say so. The banner asks the two things separately, before either is set, so you can accept one and refuse the other; you can change either answer any time from Cookie choices in the footer, and the cookie policy lists exactly what each of them sets.
• No selling or renting of your personal data. Ever.

The data on your device

Every device we buy is erased in line with recognised industry standards (NIST SP 800-88 and IEEE 2883). The erasure is verified and a record of it is kept with your order; when the erasure software signs that record, it is a certificate. Please switch off Find My and remove your SIM before posting.

Device checks

We check every device’s IMEI against industry loss and theft registers before paying. If a check fails, we may need to share information with the register operator or law enforcement.

How long we keep things

Order records are kept for six years to meet UK tax and VAT margin scheme rules. Saved quotes that go unused expire after ninety days. The internet address we hold only to prevent abuse of the sign-up and address forms is deleted automatically after seven days.

Photographs and files you send us

If you email us a photograph or a document, for example a picture of your proof of posting or of damage to your phone, we keep it against your enquiry so whoever answers can see what you sent. We keep photographs and PDFs and refuse every other kind of file. They are stored privately, are not published anywhere, and are opened only by people working on your enquiry. We delete them with the rest of your data when you ask us to.

Who else sees your data

We use a small number of suppliers to run the service, and each of them only ever sees the part of it that it needs. Two of them you deal with yourself, so we name them.

• Royal Mail carries your phone and tracks it, so it is given your name, the address the postage pack goes to, and the tracking number on your label.
• Wise makes the payment, so it is given your name, your bank details and the amount. It is the only supplier that ever sees your bank details, and they are never used for anything but paying you.
• Trustpilot sends you one invitation to review us after you have been paid, so it is given your name, your email address and your order reference, and nothing else. Every customer is invited the same way, whatever happened.

The rest are the plumbing behind the site. What matters about them is what they hold rather than what they are called, so here they are by what they do.

• The company that hosts the website. Every request passes through it, so it sees the internet address the request came from; what it hands back to us is the country and the rough area described above, and nothing finer.
• The provider that stores our database and our files. Your order, our messages with you and any photograph you send us live there.
• The provider that sends and receives our email, so it handles every email between us, including your address and whatever either of us wrote.
• The provider that sends our text messages, which sees your mobile number and the message when we text you.
• Our accounting software, which holds the record of what we bought from you and what we paid for it, because UK tax rules require us to keep it.

Every one of them is under contract to act on our instructions only, and none of them is free to use your data for anything of its own. Naming each one would tell you more about how we are built than about what happens to you, so we have not, but if you want the names you are entitled to them: ask at hello@remint.uk and we will tell you.

Google Analytics sees which of our pages you opened, and only if you said yes to analytics cookies on the banner. Every device is checked against industry loss, theft and finance databases, which means sharing the phone’s identifiers with those checking services. We do not sell your data. The one thing that goes to an advertiser is described in the cookie policy: if you said yes to advertising cookies and then sold us a phone, the platform whose advert brought you here, which we know because the click reference from the link you arrived on is kept with your order, is told that the order was placed, that the phone arrived and that you were paid, so its adverts learn what works. Say no on the banner and nothing about you goes to any advertiser.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete anything we are not legally required to keep.
