Oops.
Everybody knows that sound.
A crack is not
the end of it.

Selling this phone keeps roughly 55 kg of CO2e worth of manufacturing in use.
Apple publishes a lifecycle footprint of 66 kg CO2e for a 128GB iPhone 15 Pro, from mining the materials to recycling the phone. Apple states 83 per cent production. That share of 66 kg is 55 kg.
Keeping a working iPhone 15 Pro going displaces the manufacture of a new one, so we quote the 55 kg rather than the whole 66 kg. Charging it, shipping it and recycling it happen either way.
It says roughly because it assumes your iPhone 15 Pro replaces one that would otherwise have been built. Apple's 66 kg is for the 128GB model as published in September 2023, and a larger size carries a larger footprint.
For a sense of scale, that is the same quantity of CO2e as driving about 200 miles in an average car.
Apple, Product Environmental Report: iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, September 2023. Mileage at 0.26915 kg CO2e per mile, UK Government conversion factors 2025.
