A 256 GB Galaxy S22 Ultra with a cracked screen that still shows a perfect picture is £98. With lines, burn-in or a black screen it is £35. A smashed screen takes less off than most people expect: it has to switch on, and that is about it.

Where the Galaxy S22 Ultra sits
Samsung's flagship for its year, the Galaxy S22 Ultra carries the S Pen in its frame and the biggest display of the S22 family. Expect the most money of the range here too. One rule is Ultra only: Works fine means the pen is there and writes, while the faulty grades do not ask about it.
The S22 range is one of the oldest we buy. A Galaxy S22 Ultra that switches on still has value in its board, battery and cameras, which is why we buy it cracked or with the picture gone rather than turning it away.
Sure it is this one?
Open Settings, then About phone. The name is at the top (Galaxy S22 Ultra) and the model number under it: a Galaxy S22 Ultra starts SM-S908, with a letter after it for the region, like SM-S908B for a UK phone. Storage is under Settings, Battery and device care, Storage. Every Ultra in the S22 to S26 range has an S Pen that slides out of the bottom edge.
Screen broken on a Galaxy: what counts
Lines, blots, dead pixels, a green or pink tint, touch that does not respond, a black screen that still rings, burn-in (a ghost of the keyboard, navigation bar or clock that stays on screen), or an aftermarket or OLED copy screen. All of them are Screen broken, up to £35 for a 256 GB. An original screen, or a genuine Samsung Service Pack replacement, counts as original, and cracked glass over a perfect picture is the better grade, Not perfect, screen works. Samsung shows no message for a replaced screen, so we check it on arrival: if it is not original we send a revised offer you can accept, or we post the phone back free. It has to switch on and charge, and it must not be blacklisted or still signed in to a Google or Samsung account.
Questions about selling a broken Galaxy S22 Ultra
Do you buy a Galaxy S22 Ultra with screen burn-in?
Yes, and it is one of the commonest faults on an older Galaxy. A ghost of the navigation bar or keyboard that never goes away counts as Screen broken, which pays up to £35 for a 256 GB that still switches on.
Do I need to remove my Google account?
You do, and your Samsung account too. Google's Factory Reset Protection locks a reset phone to the last account on it, which stops us testing, wiping or paying. Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts does it in a minute; with a dead screen, sign the phone out of your Google account from a computer instead.
Does the S Pen have to come with it?
Only for the top grade. A Works fine Ultra needs its pen in the slot and writing on the screen; cracked or faulty, the pen can be lost or broken and the price stays the same.
My fingerprint reader stopped working after the crack. Which grade?
It depends on the picture, not the reader. Good picture, dead fingerprint: Not perfect, screen works. Lines or burn-in as well: Screen broken.
The screen was replaced. Does that matter?
An original screen, or a genuine Samsung Service Pack replacement, counts as original. An aftermarket or OLED copy screen, however good it looks, is priced as Screen broken. Samsung shows no message for a replaced screen, so we check it on arrival: if it is not original we send a revised offer you can accept, or we post the phone back free.
How fast do I get paid?
By bank transfer within 48 hours of your phone arriving, Monday to Friday. Your price is locked for 10 days, and if our test disagrees with your description we tell you why and you can take the new offer or have it posted back free.
