A 256 GB Galaxy S23 FE with a cracked screen that still shows a perfect picture is £35. With lines, burn-in or a black screen it is £13. A smashed screen takes less off than most people expect: it has to switch on, and that is about it.

Condition

What counts as Screen broken

  • Lines, blots, burn-in, dead pixels, a green or pink tint, or a black screen
  • Touch that does not respond, or works only in places
  • An aftermarket or OLED copy replacement screen
  • Smashed glass, cameras, fingerprint or buttons broken too
  • Any battery health
  • Will not switch on or charge: we cannot buy it
  • A swollen battery: not safe to post

  • Excellent on Trustpilot, read the reviews

The picture decides the grade: cracked glass over a perfect picture is Not perfect, screen works; lines, burn-in, dead pixels, a tint, touch faults, a black screen or an aftermarket screen is Screen broken. Hidden faults, battery to fingerprint, are accepted in both.

Every figure is today’s price list, the same one the quote reads.

On today's list a 256 GB Galaxy S23 FE with the screen gone keeps about a third of its working price, and one with cracked glass over a good picture keeps almost the whole of it.

Where the Galaxy S23 FE sits

Fan Edition phones like the Galaxy S23 FE borrow the S23 name at a lower price. That shows on our list as a smaller figure than the standard S23, but not a scrap one: working, cracked or with the picture gone, we buy it.

At three years old a Galaxy S23 FE is mostly bought for what is inside it. The screen is the expensive part to replace, so a phone with good glass is worth noticeably more than one without, and the gap between our grades shows it.

Sure it is this one?

Open Settings, then About phone. The name is at the top (Galaxy S23 FE) and the model number under it: a Galaxy S23 FE starts SM-S711, with a letter after it for the region, like SM-S711B for a UK phone. Storage is under Settings, Battery and device care, Storage.

Screen broken on a Galaxy: what counts

Lines, blots, dead pixels, a green or pink tint, touch that does not respond, a black screen that still rings, burn-in (a ghost of the keyboard, navigation bar or clock that stays on screen), or an aftermarket or OLED copy screen. All of them are Screen broken, up to £13 for a 256 GB. An original screen, or a genuine Samsung Service Pack replacement, counts as original, and cracked glass over a perfect picture is the better grade, Not perfect, screen works. Samsung shows no message for a replaced screen, so we check it on arrival: if it is not original we send a revised offer you can accept, or we post the phone back free. It has to switch on and charge, and it must not be blacklisted or still signed in to a Google or Samsung account.

Questions about selling a broken Galaxy S23 FE

Do you buy a Galaxy S23 FE with screen burn-in?

Yes. Burn-in is a faint image of the keyboard, the navigation bar or the clock that stays on screen whatever you open. On an AMOLED screen it cannot be fixed without a new panel, so we price it as Screen broken: up to £13 for a 256 GB, as long as it switches on.

Do I need to remove my Google account?

You do, and your Samsung account too. Google's Factory Reset Protection locks a reset phone to the last account on it, which stops us testing, wiping or paying. Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts does it in a minute; with a dead screen, sign the phone out of your Google account from a computer instead.

My fingerprint reader stopped working after the crack. Which grade?

Not perfect, screen works, as long as the picture is clean. The reader sits under the display, so a crack often kills it, but a dead reader alone does not make the screen broken.

The screen was replaced. Does that matter?

Only if it is not genuine. A Samsung Service Pack screen counts as original; an aftermarket or OLED copy is Screen broken. There is no warning in Settings to check, so we look at it on arrival and, if it is a copy, offer you the revised price or the phone back free.

How fast do I get paid?

By bank transfer within 48 hours of your phone arriving, Monday to Friday. Your price is locked for 10 days, and if our test disagrees with your description we tell you why and you can take the new offer or have it posted back free.
