A 256 GB Galaxy S23+ with a cracked screen that still shows a perfect picture is £88. With lines, burn-in or a black screen it is £36. A smashed screen takes less off than most people expect: it has to switch on, and that is about it.

Condition

What counts as Screen broken

  • Lines, blots, burn-in, dead pixels, a green or pink tint, or a black screen
  • Touch that does not respond, or works only in places
  • An aftermarket or OLED copy replacement screen
  • Smashed glass, cameras, fingerprint or buttons broken too
  • Any battery health
  • Will not switch on or charge: we cannot buy it
  • A swollen battery: not safe to post

The picture decides the grade: cracked glass over a perfect picture is Not perfect, screen works; lines, burn-in, dead pixels, a tint, touch faults, a black screen or an aftermarket screen is Screen broken. Hidden faults, battery to fingerprint, are accepted in both.

Put another way: cracked glass over a perfect picture costs a Galaxy S23+ little, while lines, burn-in or a black screen leave it about a third of what a working 256 GB pays.

Where the Galaxy S23+ sits

The Galaxy S23+ is the middle child of the S23 family, a larger screen than the standard S23 without the Ultra's pen. Trade buyers price the two smaller models close together, so expect the + to pay only a little more than the standard phone at the same storage, and sometimes exactly the same.

At three years old a Galaxy S23+ is mostly bought for what is inside it. The screen is the expensive part to replace, so a phone with good glass is worth noticeably more than one without, and the gap between our grades shows it.

Sure it is this one?

Open Settings, then About phone. The name is at the top (Galaxy S23+) and the model number under it: a Galaxy S23+ starts SM-S916, with a letter after it for the region, like SM-S916B for a UK phone. Storage is under Settings, Battery and device care, Storage.

Screen broken on a Galaxy: what counts

Lines, blots, dead pixels, a green or pink tint, touch that does not respond, a black screen that still rings, burn-in (a ghost of the keyboard, navigation bar or clock that stays on screen), or an aftermarket or OLED copy screen. All of them are Screen broken, up to £36 for a 256 GB. An original screen, or a genuine Samsung Service Pack replacement, counts as original, and cracked glass over a perfect picture is the better grade, Not perfect, screen works. Samsung shows no message for a replaced screen, so we check it on arrival: if it is not original we send a revised offer you can accept, or we post the phone back free. It has to switch on and charge, and it must not be blacklisted or still signed in to a Google or Samsung account.

Questions about selling a broken Galaxy S23+

Do you buy a Galaxy S23+ with screen burn-in?

Yes, and it is one of the commonest faults on an older Galaxy. A ghost of the navigation bar or keyboard that never goes away counts as Screen broken, which pays up to £36 for a 256 GB that still switches on.

Do I need to remove my Google account?

Before it goes in the post, yes: Find My Mobile off, then the Google and Samsung accounts removed. A phone that arrives still signed in is locked by Factory Reset Protection after a wipe, and a locked phone is the one thing we cannot pay for.

My fingerprint reader stopped working after the crack. Which grade?

It depends on the picture, not the reader. Good picture, dead fingerprint: Not perfect, screen works. Lines or burn-in as well: Screen broken.

The screen was replaced. Does that matter?

A genuine Samsung Service Pack screen is treated exactly like the original. A copy screen, OLED or otherwise, prices as Screen broken. We check every screen when it lands and tell you before anything changes: take the new offer or have it back free.

How fast do I get paid?

By bank transfer, within 48 hours of arrival, Monday to Friday. Nothing about your price changes without us telling you first, and a revised offer can always be refused for a free return.
