A 1 TB Galaxy S24 Ultra with a cracked screen that still shows a perfect picture is £264. With lines, burn-in or a black screen it is £151. A smashed screen takes less off than most people expect: it has to switch on, and that is about it.

Put another way: cracked glass over a perfect picture costs a Galaxy S24 Ultra little, while lines, burn-in or a black screen leave it about half of what a working 1 TB pays.

Where the Galaxy S24 Ultra sits

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the top of the S24 range: the largest screen in the series, the S Pen that slides out of the bottom edge, and the dearest phone of the series new, which is why a broken Ultra still fetches the most of any S24. For Works fine the pen has to be in the phone and writing; in either faulty grade a lost or dead pen takes nothing extra off.

Two years on, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is in the part of its life where most people upgrade, and where a crack or a dead screen often decides it. It still sells well to the trade, working or not, as long as it switches on.

Sure it is this one?

Open Settings, then About phone. The name is at the top (Galaxy S24 Ultra) and the model number under it: a Galaxy S24 Ultra starts SM-S928, with a letter after it for the region, like SM-S928B for a UK phone. Storage is under Settings, Battery and device care, Storage. Every Ultra in the S22 to S26 range has an S Pen that slides out of the bottom edge.

Screen broken on a Galaxy: what counts

Lines, blots, dead pixels, a green or pink tint, touch that does not respond, a black screen that still rings, burn-in (a ghost of the keyboard, navigation bar or clock that stays on screen), or an aftermarket or OLED copy screen. All of them are Screen broken, up to £151 for a 1 TB. An original screen, or a genuine Samsung Service Pack replacement, counts as original, and cracked glass over a perfect picture is the better grade, Not perfect, screen works. Samsung shows no message for a replaced screen, so we check it on arrival: if it is not original we send a revised offer you can accept, or we post the phone back free. It has to switch on and charge, and it must not be blacklisted or still signed in to a Google or Samsung account.

Questions about selling a broken Galaxy S24 Ultra

Do you buy a Galaxy S24 Ultra with screen burn-in?

Yes, and it is one of the commonest faults on an older Galaxy. A ghost of the navigation bar or keyboard that never goes away counts as Screen broken, which pays up to £151 for a 1 TB that still switches on.

Do I need to remove my Google account?

Before it goes in the post, yes: Find My Mobile off, then the Google and Samsung accounts removed. A phone that arrives still signed in is locked by Factory Reset Protection after a wipe, and a locked phone is the one thing we cannot pay for.

Does the S Pen have to come with it?

Only for the top grade. A Works fine Ultra needs its pen in the slot and writing on the screen; cracked or faulty, the pen can be lost or broken and the price stays the same.

My fingerprint reader stopped working after the crack. Which grade?

Not perfect, screen works, as long as the picture is clean. The reader sits under the display, so a crack often kills it, but a dead reader alone does not make the screen broken.

The screen was replaced. Does that matter?

A genuine Samsung Service Pack screen is treated exactly like the original. A copy screen, OLED or otherwise, prices as Screen broken. We check every screen when it lands and tell you before anything changes: take the new offer or have it back free.

How fast do I get paid?

By bank transfer within 48 hours of your phone arriving, Monday to Friday. Your price is locked for 10 days, and if our test disagrees with your description we tell you why and you can take the new offer or have it posted back free.
