Selling an iPhone with a broken back camera: yes, here is how

Yes, ReMint buys iPhones with a broken back camera, as long as the phone powers on and the screen shows a good picture. A cracked lens cover, a camera that opens to a black image, a shaking or wobbling picture, or photos that will not focus are all faults we accept. You get a firm quote online for the phone as it is, and free postage to send it in.

Rear camera faults are common on iPhones that have been dropped or have lived a hard life in a pocket. The lens glass on the back can crack on its own, the stabilisation can start shaking, or the whole module can fail so the Camera app shows nothing. A repair at Apple or a shop is often not worth it on an older phone, which is why many people would rather sell it and put the money towards the next one.

To grade it on our calculator, pick your model and storage, then choose "Picture fine". That is the grade for a phone that powers on with a perfect picture on the display but has any other damage or fault, and the camera counts. If the display itself is also faulty, with lines, blots, blank patches or a replacement screen, pick "Picture faulty". You see the price straight away.

Before posting, back up anything you want to keep, turn off Find My iPhone, and sign out of iCloud from Settings by tapping your name at the top and choosing Sign Out. Then erase the phone. A phone that arrives still signed in to iCloud is put on hold and we email you, so it is worth doing this first.

We send free tracked Royal Mail postage, as a prepaid label or a QR code to show at the Post Office, so no printer is needed. Every phone is checked within one working day of arriving, using industry diagnostic software, and we pay by bank transfer within 48 hours of it arriving, Monday to Friday. Your price is fixed for 10 days from the order and holds if the phone matches your answers. If it turns out to be different, you get a revised offer to accept or decline, with a free return if you would rather have it back.
