What the damage costs you
Three figures, and the gaps between them are the point. £754 if it is perfect. £744 once the front glass has gone but the display under it still draws a clean image, a drop of £10. £504 once the image itself is wrong, which is £250 off the top. Cracked glass over a working picture is close to free here, which is not true at most places you could send it.
The 256 GB is the smallest this phone was sold in and these are its prices, so nothing above can catch you out. On a panel this good a fault is obvious once you look: a green or pink cast, a band that will not refresh, or a line that stays put while everything else moves. Unsure? Where the iPhone 18 Pro Max sits
That makes the iPhone 18 Pro Max one of the better ones on this site. Of the 32 models with a page like this one, 1 hold a larger share and 30 hold less.
Run the same sum over all 32 of them and a shape appears. Under £50 working, a faulty picture leaves about 41 per cent. At £120 and up it leaves about 57 per cent. The panel has nothing to do with it; the price of the phone has everything to do with it.
The screen is the part that meets the floor and very little else does. On an iPhone 18 Pro Max the board, the cameras and the battery are almost always fine afterwards, and since they are most of the value of the phone, most of the value survives.
Worth knowing before you send it
No known weak point on a phone this new. It went on sale on 18 September 2026. The 6.9 inch 120 Hz display is the dearest screen we buy, so even with the glass gone it keeps a proper price here.
Treat the Camera Control as a part in its own right. One click should open the camera and the next should take a picture, and holding it in should film; then press it lightly twice and slide a thumb along it, which works the light press and the touch surface as well as the click. This model's main camera can open its blades as wide as f/1.48 for dim scenes, so take a picture in a dark room and see that it comes out clean. The front camera is the 18 megapixel Centre Stage one, worth a quick selfie too. Telling it from last year's 17 Pro Max by eye is close to hopeless, so pull the SIM tray: inside the slot, one bought in the UK is marked A3717.
