iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB, Face ID failed, picture perfect: £505 against £606 working, 6 October 2026.
Selling a cracked or broken iPhone 17 Pro Max? A cracked iPhone with a good screen is Picture fine. A broken screen, lines, blotches or a replacement display, is Picture faulty. A smashed one with a cracked back or Face ID not working can be either; a phone that won't charge is one we cannot buy.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max went on sale in September 2025 with a 6.9 inch OLED screen, which makes it about a year old. On a phone this new the details set the price, so we ask about them before you post it rather than after it lands. Get your price in a minute and post it free.

Not sure which one is yours? Picture fine means the picture is perfect however the glass looks. Picture faulty means the display itself is faulty or has been replaced. Hidden faults, battery to Face ID, are accepted in both. Our three grades, explained properly.
Prices shown for 256 GB, the smallest this model came in. A working 2 TB pays £104 more.
What we know about the iPhone 17 Pro Max
The largest screen in the range until the 18 Pro Max matched it, and the first iPhone with 2 TB of storage.
No known weak point yet on a phone this new. The thing actually worth doing before you send it is checking the capacity in Settings, because this model spans 256 GB to 2 TB and that spread moves the price further here than on anything else we buy.
Is this the phone you have?
6.9 inches with three cameras. This, the 16 Pro Max and the 18 Pro Max are that size. The 16 Pro Max is titanium where this one is aluminium, and the 18 Pro Max is the same shape again a year on, so if you are still unsure, Settings, General, About names it outright.
If the screen has gone
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 6.9 inch Super Retina XDR panel running at 120 Hz. A big panel and a fast one is the dearest combination there is, which is why a site pricing damage as scrap quotes almost nothing for a broken one.
With the picture still good, a cracked one runs 256 GB £505, 512 GB £560, 1 TB £560 and 2 TB £560. If the display itself is damaged rather than the glass over it, a 256 GB is £327.
Once the picture itself has gone, a 256 GB still holds 54 per cent, a little below the middle of our range. What a broken iPhone 17 Pro Max is worth has the rest of the arithmetic.
Exact price for your size
This was the first iPhone sold with 2 TB of storage, and the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max followed it a year later. If you have the 2 TB one, it is among the most valuable phones on this site, working or not.
Working, this model runs 256 GB £606, 512 GB £640, 1 TB £685 and 2 TB £710. At 256 GB, the iPhone 17 Pro pays £83 less and the iPhone 18 Pro pays £48 more.
Why sell your iPhone 17 Pro Max to ReMint?
An iPhone 17 Pro Max sits near the top of what we buy, and the resale value on one is high enough that we can pay properly even with the screen in pieces.
Free tracked postage, checked within a working day, paid within 48 hours of it arriving, erased to recognised standards with the record kept.
Making a phone is where the damage is. Not using it. Which is why the greenest phone is one that already exists.
Selling this phone keeps roughly 50 kg of CO2e worth of manufacturing in use.
Where this figure comes from
Apple publishes a lifecycle footprint of 67 kg CO2e for a 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max, from mining the materials to recycling the phone. Apple draws one emissions breakdown for this report and labels it iPhone 17 Pro: manufacturing electricity at 50 per cent and materials and process emissions at 25 per cent, which add to 75 per cent. That share of 67 kg is 50 kg.
One thing to be straight about: that breakdown is the one Apple prints for the iPhone 17 Pro. The report covers both phones and gives each its own total, but it draws only the Pro's split, so the iPhone 17 Pro Max's 75 per cent is the Pro's share applied to the iPhone 17 Pro Max's own 67 kg. Both figures are in the report linked below. Apple does not state 75 per cent for the iPhone 17 Pro Max itself, and we would rather you knew that than not.
Keeping a working iPhone 17 Pro Max going displaces the manufacture of a new one, so we quote the 50 kg rather than the whole 67 kg. Charging it, shipping it and recycling it happen either way.
It says roughly because it assumes your iPhone 17 Pro Max replaces one that would otherwise have been built. Apple's 67 kg is for the 256GB model as published in September 2025, and a larger size carries a larger footprint.
For a sense of scale, that is the same quantity of CO2e as driving about 190 miles in an average car.
Apple, Product Environmental Report: iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, September 2025. Mileage at 0.26915 kg CO2e per mile, UK Government conversion factors 2025.
Questions people ask before selling
What is an iPhone 17 Pro Max worth right now?
Size and condition, in that order. The sizes do not price the same on this model, so look yours up in Settings, General, About rather than guessing. Then condition, where the glass and the picture count separately: cracked glass with a perfect picture underneath is our middle grade (Picture fine), a faulty picture is our bottom grade, and battery health below 80 per cent goes in the middle grade too. The calculator on this page prices your exact combination, and once you order that price holds for 10 days.
What does my iPhone 17 Pro Max need to do for you to buy it?
It has to switch on, charge, and work. Under 80% battery is priced as Picture fine. Works fine: no cracks, everything works, battery 80% or above. Picture fine: LCD is good, front or back glass can be smashed, and Face ID, a camera, sound or a button can be broken. Picture faulty: bad LCD, or an aftermarket screen, with the same faults allowed.
What counts as Works fine for an iPhone 17 Pro Max?
No cracks front or back, everything works, battery health 80 per cent or above. That is the full price for your size, shown at the top of this page.
What counts as Picture fine for an iPhone 17 Pro Max?
A smashed iPhone 17 Pro Max with a good LCD, the original screen and a perfect picture, or a crack free one whose battery is under 80 per cent. Face ID, a camera, a speaker or a button can be broken. It usually keeps most of the working price.
What counts as Picture faulty for an iPhone 17 Pro Max?
Lines, bleeding, dead patches or ghost touch on the display, or a non original screen fitted. The phone must switch on and charge; a phone that will not is covered below.
My iPhone 17 Pro Max has a cracked screen. Do I get next to nothing for it?
No, and this is the thing we do differently. Your phone has two layers: the glass on top, and the picture underneath it. If the glass is cracked but the picture is still perfect, we call that "picture fine", because the part that shows you things is fine. That is our middle grade, not our bottom one, and a cracked iPhone 17 Pro Max with a perfect picture prices there. The bottom grade is for a fault in the picture itself: lines, blotches, blank patches, touch that does not respond, or a screen somebody has already replaced with a non original part. A cracked back counts the same as a cracked front. The quote on this page prices every grade.
Does low battery health matter on an iPhone 17 Pro Max?
Only at the 80 per cent line, and a phone as recent as the iPhone 17 Pro Max is usually still above it. Have a look in Settings, Battery before you choose a grade: at 80 per cent or better, with no cracks or faults, it is Working. Below that it counts as Picture fine, and the quote shows you the difference before you commit to anything.
Can I sell an iPhone 17 Pro Max that is locked to a network?
You can: we buy network locked phones. Check the lock is really there first though, because it probably is not: selling locked handsets has been banned in the UK since December 2021, so phones from the iPhone 13 onwards, your iPhone 17 Pro Max included, are nearly always unlocked already. If yours is locked, a fixed amount, shown in pounds before you commit to anything, comes off the quote. Or keep the whole price: ask your network to unlock it before you post it, which is free, usually done within a day or two, and something only the account holder can do, so we cannot do it for you. Not sure is still an honest answer in the quote flow; nothing comes off for it, and if the phone turns out to be locked we tell you before anything else happens.
Do I need to switch off Find My before selling my iPhone 17 Pro Max?
Yes. Find My is Apple's Activation Lock, and a phone still carrying it cannot be erased or resold, so it must be off before we can pay you. Switch it off in Settings on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, or from iCloud.com after it has gone in the post. If it arrives still locked we hold it for 14 days so you can remove the lock, rather than sending it straight back.
What if my iPhone 17 Pro Max will not turn on?
No. We cannot check what is wrong with an iPhone 17 Pro Max that will not power on, or erase it to a standard we can certify, so any price would be a guess we had to take back later. Your council's recycling centre and any Apple store take it free, which is the right home for a phone nobody can price.
How fast will I be paid for my iPhone 17 Pro Max, and can the offer drop?
We check the iPhone 17 Pro Max within one working day of it arriving and pay by bank transfer within 48 hours of it arriving. If the phone does not match your answers, you get a revised offer and the reason for it, never a silent deduction. Turn the revised offer down and the phone comes back to you free.
If you are still weighing it up
Three things people ask before selling a iPhone 17 Pro Max, answered properly rather than in a sentence.
- How to check your iPhone storage size Open Settings, General, About and read the Capacity line. That is your storage size: 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB. It takes ten seconds.
- What happens to your data when you sell your phone The two erasures your data goes through, and why neither of them is optional.
- Trade in or sell? What Apple and the networks do not mention Trade-in is convenient. It is also usually the lowest offer in the room. Here is the honest comparison.
