iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB, Face ID failed, picture perfect: £414 against £435 working, 6 October 2026.

If your iPhone 16 Pro Max is smashed, the screen underneath decides: a good one is Picture fine, a bad LCD or a replacement screen is Picture faulty. A cracked back, cracked glass or Face ID not working is allowed in either. It must switch on and charge; one that won't charge we cannot take.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max went on sale in September 2024 with a 6.9 inch OLED screen, which makes it about 2 years old. On a phone this new the details set the price, so we ask about them before you post it rather than after it lands. Get your price in a minute and post it free.

What we know about the iPhone 16 Pro Max

At 6.9 inches it is bigger than every Pro Max before it, so cases, screens and glass from an older Max do not fit.

Six point nine inches of glass is a lot to hold on to, and it is the part that meets the pavement first. The phone underneath usually survives it, which is the whole reason a cracked one is worth sending to us rather than to a site that prices damage as scrap. The Camera Control button and the 48 megapixel ultra wide camera both arrived with this generation. Press the flush button low on the right hand edge: if the camera opens, you are holding a 16 Pro Max or later, not a 15.

Is this the phone you have?

6.9 inches, three cameras, titanium, and the camera button on the edge. The 15 Pro Max before it is 6.7, and side by side that is a difference you can see rather than one you have to measure.

If the screen has gone

The iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9 inch Super Retina XDR panel running at 120 Hz. A big panel and a fast one is the dearest combination there is, which is why a site pricing damage as scrap quotes almost nothing for a broken one.

With the picture still good, a cracked one runs 256 GB £414, 512 GB £462 and 1 TB £462. If the display itself is damaged rather than the glass over it, a 256 GB is £251.

With the picture gone a 256 GB keeps 58 per cent of that, a little above the middle of our range. What a broken iPhone 16 Pro Max is worth takes it size by size.

Exact price for your size

No 128 GB option on this one. It starts at 256 GB, the same as the 15 Pro Max before it.

Working, this model runs 256 GB £435, 512 GB £463 and 1 TB £464. At 256 GB, the iPhone 16 Pro pays £85 less and the iPhone 17e pays £211 less.

Why sell your iPhone 16 Pro Max to ReMint?

An iPhone 16 Pro Max sits near the top of what we buy, and the resale value on one is high enough that we can pay properly even with the screen in pieces.

Free tracked postage, checked within a working day, paid within 48 hours of it arriving, erased to recognised standards with the record kept.

Making a phone is where the damage is. Not using it. Which is why the greenest phone is one that already exists.

Selling this phone keeps roughly 59 kg of CO2e worth of manufacturing in use.

Where this figure comes from

Apple publishes a lifecycle footprint of 74 kg CO2e for a 256GB iPhone 16 Pro Max, from mining the materials to recycling the phone. Apple states 80 per cent production. That share of 74 kg is 59 kg.

Keeping a working iPhone 16 Pro Max going displaces the manufacture of a new one, so we quote the 59 kg rather than the whole 74 kg. Charging it, shipping it and recycling it happen either way.

It says roughly because it assumes your iPhone 16 Pro Max replaces one that would otherwise have been built. Apple's 74 kg is for the 256GB model as published in September 2024, and a larger size carries a larger footprint.

For a sense of scale, that is the same quantity of CO2e as driving about 220 miles in an average car.

Apple, Product Environmental Report: iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, September 2024. Mileage at 0.26915 kg CO2e per mile, UK Government conversion factors 2025.

Questions people ask before selling

What is an iPhone 16 Pro Max worth right now?

Two things move it, and the quote on this page settles both in under a minute. Storage size matters on this model, so check yours in Settings, General, About before you answer. Condition does the rest: cracked glass or battery health below 80 per cent puts the phone in our middle grade, and a display with a fault of its own puts it in the bottom one. Whatever the quote comes to is locked for 10 days once you order.

What does my iPhone 16 Pro Max need to do for you to buy it?

It has to switch on, charge, and work. Under 80% battery is priced as Picture fine. Works fine: no cracks, everything works, battery 80% or above. Picture fine: LCD is good, front or back glass can be smashed, and Face ID, a camera, sound or a button can be broken. Picture faulty: bad LCD, or an aftermarket screen, with the same faults allowed.

What counts as Works fine for an iPhone 16 Pro Max?

No cracks front or back, everything works, battery health 80 per cent or above. That is the full price for your size, shown at the top of this page.

What counts as Picture fine for an iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Cracked glass on the front or a cracked back is fine as long as the original LCD shows a clean image; so is a battery under 80 per cent on a phone with no cracks. Face ID, a camera, sound or a button can also be broken.

What counts as Picture faulty for an iPhone 16 Pro Max?

The picture itself is wrong on this iPhone 16 Pro Max, or the screen is not original; Face ID, a camera or a button can be broken as well. That is our bottom grade, and it still pays real money because the rest of the phone keeps its value.

My iPhone 16 Pro Max has a cracked screen. Do I get next to nothing for it?

You will not, as long as the picture underneath is perfect and it is still the original screen. The glass and the picture are graded separately: cracked glass on its own is "picture fine", because the picture is what that word means to us, and a cracked iPhone 16 Pro Max sits in our middle grade, not the scrap pile. The lower grade is for the picture itself being faulty, lines, blotches, blank patches, or a screen that ignores your finger, and for a non original replacement screen. A cracked back is graded exactly like a cracked front, so it does not drop you down either.

Does low battery health matter on an iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Check Settings, Battery, but on a phone this new the answer is usually still 80 per cent or better, which leaves a crack free iPhone 16 Pro Max in the Working grade. If yours has dipped below the line it counts as Picture fine instead, and you will see exactly what that pays before you commit to posting it.

Can I sell an iPhone 16 Pro Max that is locked to a network?

Yes, though odds are you do not need to worry at all: UK networks were banned from selling locked handsets in December 2021, so an iPhone 16 Pro Max bought new here, like nearly every phone from the iPhone 13 onwards, is almost certainly unlocked already. If yours really is locked we still buy it, and a fixed amount, shown in pounds before you commit to anything, comes off the quote, which is what a locked phone costs us to deal with. The free route is better: your network must unlock it at no charge when you ask, usually within a day or two, and only you can ask, because you are the account holder. Do that before you post it, answer unlocked, and the full price is yours.

Do I need to switch off Find My before selling my iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Yes. Find My is Apple's Activation Lock, and a phone still carrying it cannot be erased or resold, so it must be off before we can pay you. Switch it off in Settings on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, or from iCloud.com after it has gone in the post. If it arrives still locked we hold it for 14 days so you can remove the lock, rather than sending it straight back.

What if my iPhone 16 Pro Max will not turn on?

No price on that one, because with an iPhone 16 Pro Max that will not switch on we cannot verify what is wrong or erase it to standard. Rather than guess at a number we say so. Apple stores and council recycling centres both take it free, and neither will try to sell you anything.

How fast will I be paid for my iPhone 16 Pro Max, and can the offer drop?

We inspect within one working day of the phone arriving and pay by bank transfer within 48 hours of it arriving. If your iPhone 16 Pro Max does not match your answers, we do not quietly cut the payment. You get a revised offer with the reason, and you can accept it or have the phone returned free of charge.
