Is the 128 GB worth checking?

Working, the 64 GB pays £2 less and the 256 GB pays the same. At the same capacity, the iPhone 12 mini pays £9 more.

At 128 GB, Picture fine pays £8 and Picture faulty pays £5: smashed glass over a good screen takes £2 off, not the phone's whole value.

The same 128 GB in the models either side: iPhone 12 mini 128 GB.

If Settings, General, About shows a Capacity other than 128 GB, use one of these instead: 64 GB, 256 GB.

How much is 128 GB in real life?

Knock off the 10 to 15 GB that iOS keeps for itself and you are left with about 110 GB to actually use. That is in the region of 36,000 photos at roughly 3 MB apiece, or about ten hours of 4K video at 30 frames a second, going by Apple's own on screen estimate of 170 MB a minute. Downloaded music barely registers: an album weighs in somewhere near 100 MB, so five hundred of them would not take this phone past half way. Apps sit on top, tens of megabytes for most, a few gigabytes for the biggest games, and this size absorbs them without fuss.

That arithmetic is why 128 GB became the size most owners stop thinking about. An ordinary photo library, the apps, the podcasts and the holiday videos all fit without management. The people who genuinely run out are the ones filming 4K every week, and they mostly knew to buy bigger on day one.

Why the step to 256 GB is £0 here

Apple has typically charged about a hundred pounds to go from 128 GB to 256 GB when these phones were new. Used, the same step on the iPhone SE (2020) is £0, and the shrinkage is the market talking: a second hand buyer pays for storage they will actually use, and most people never fill 128 GB in the first place.

Coming the other way, the 64 GB sits £2 below this page, a smaller drop than most sellers expect for half the storage. The pattern is the same in both directions: capacity earns a premium second hand, just a flatter one than it did at the till.

The middle child of the range

On the iPhone SE (2020), 128 GB sat between the entry size most people defaulted to and the bigger option a minority paid up for. Second hand, that middle position is quietly the comfortable one: roomier than the base without the top size's scarcity, so there are always buyers for it and rarely a glut. Capacity is the one spec you cannot tell by looking, though, and the middle size is the easiest to misremember, so give the About screen ten seconds before you lean on the number above. If it agrees, the figure here is the middle size's own price, not an average of its neighbours.

Is this the iPhone SE (2020) you have?

It is an iPhone 8 to look at: 4.7 inches, a home button with Touch ID, one camera on the back. The SE (2022) is the same again, so looking will not settle it. Settings, General, About calls this one iPhone SE (2nd generation).

The iPhone SE (2020) in one paragraph

It uses the iPhone 8 body, screen and home button, which is a genuine advantage when it is broken: those parts are everywhere and cost very little, so a smashed SE (2020) is worth having.

The 128 GB question

What is an iPhone SE (2020) 128 GB worth right now?

The size half of it is settled by the page you are on: the 128 GB sits between the 64 GB and the 256 GB, so it pays more than the one and less than the other. Everything after that is condition. Glass and picture are graded separately here, so a cracked 128 GB whose picture is still perfect prices in the middle rather than at the bottom, and only a display faulty in itself goes lower. A battery under 80 per cent lands in that same middle grade. Whichever of the three figures above turns out to be yours is locked for 10 days once you order.

Cracked screens, battery health, Find My and how fast you are paid are answered on the iPhone SE (2020) page.
