What we know about the iPhone 14 Pro Max
The largest and dearest iPhone of its year, and still one of the highest prices on our list for a phone that is broken.
Like the 14 Pro, it missed the back glass redesign, so back damage is a chassis job. The always on display also means the screen has spent its life lit, which is worth knowing on a phone this age. It is also the last Pro Max with a Lightning port. After three or four years of cables, a worn and loose Lightning socket is a common complaint on one this age, and it is one of the cheaper parts on it to replace.

If the screen has gone
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 6.7 inch Super Retina XDR panel running at 120 Hz. A big panel and a fast one is the dearest combination there is, which is why a site pricing damage as scrap quotes almost nothing for a broken one.
With the picture still good, a cracked one runs 128 GB £220, 256 GB £240, 512 GB £246 and 1 TB £248. If the display itself is damaged rather than the glass over it, a 128 GB is £141.

Apple publishes a lifecycle footprint of 73 kg CO2e for a 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max, from mining the materials to recycling the phone. Apple states 79 per cent production. That share of 73 kg is 58 kg.
Keeping a working iPhone 14 Pro Max going displaces the manufacture of a new one, so we quote the 58 kg rather than the whole 73 kg. Charging it, shipping it and recycling it happen either way.
It says roughly because it assumes your iPhone 14 Pro Max replaces one that would otherwise have been built. Apple's 73 kg is for the 128GB model as published in September 2022, and a larger size carries a larger footprint.

My iPhone 14 Pro Max has a cracked screen. Do I get next to nothing for it?
Quite the opposite: a cracked iPhone 14 Pro Max with a working picture is the exact phone this business was built to buy. Think of the glass and the picture as two separate things. Broken glass over a perfect picture is what we call "picture fine", which sounds odd until you know that screen there means the picture, not the glass. It is our middle grade rather than our bottom one. Can I sell an iPhone 14 Pro Max that is locked to a network?
You can: we buy network locked phones. Check the lock is really there first though, because it probably is not: selling locked handsets has been banned in the UK since December 2021, so phones from the iPhone 13 onwards, your iPhone 14 Pro Max included, are nearly always unlocked already. If yours is locked, a fixed amount, shown in pounds before you commit to anything, comes off the quote. Or keep the whole price: ask your network to unlock it before you post it, which is free, usually done within a day or two, and something only the account holder can do, so we cannot do it for you. Settings does it while the phone is with you, and iCloud.com does it once it is posted. Arrive locked and we hold the phone for 14 days so you have the chance to remove it.
