What the damage costs you
Three figures, and the gaps between them are the point. £44 if it is perfect. £43 once the front glass has gone but the display under it still draws a clean image, a drop of £1. £19 once the image itself is wrong, which is £25 off the top. Cracked glass over a working picture is close to free here, which is not true at most places you could send it.
Shown for the 64 GB, the smallest this model came in, so nothing here is higher than the phone you have. On an OLED a failing panel shows as a dark blotch, a burnt in shadow of the keyboard, or a line of pixels that has simply stopped. If you cannot tell, pick the lower grade: a phone that turns out better than you described is upgraded at the bench. Our three grades, explained properly.
Where the iPhone 12 sits
That makes the iPhone 12 a little below the middle of our range. Of the 32 models with a page like this one, 23 hold a larger share and 6 hold less.
That is not one model being lucky. Sorted by price, the 32 we can price broken fall into two camps: the cheap ones average about 41 per cent kept, the ones from £120 upwards average about 57 per cent, and what separates them is what the working phone is worth rather than what its screen is made of.
An iPhone 12 is on the side of the line where the bench time starts to show. The repair costs what it costs whatever the phone is worth, and on this one it is a noticeable slice rather than a rounding error, which is why the share sits where it does.
Worth knowing before you send it
Apple ran a service programme for iPhone 12 units built between October 2020 and April 2021 where the earpiece produces no sound on calls. If yours has gone silent, that is the known one, and it does not make the phone worthless to us.
Sure it is this one?
6.1 inches, flat sided, with two rear cameras stacked vertically in the corner. On the 13 the same two lenses sit diagonally instead. That is the quickest way to tell a 12 from a 13 across a room, let alone in Settings.

The iPhone 12 in one paragraph
The 12 is where the flat sides came back and where Ceramic Shield started, so the front glass is tougher than the generation before it. The trade off is that a flat edge lands on a corner and concentrates the impact there.
What happens to a broken one here
Which way an iPhone 12 goes is settled once it is open, not before. If what is behind the screen is healthy it gets a new panel and a new owner. If it is not, what works comes off it and keeps other phones of the same age running.
