£54 with the picture gone, 128 GB

Sell your broken
iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Smashed, with the picture gone altogether, a 128 GB is worth £54 here: 55 per cent of what the same phone pays working. This is the middle of our range, where a damaged phone is a job of work rather than a write off, and the price is set on that basis.

Condition

What counts as Picture fine

  • Original screen, picture perfect
  • Touch works everywhere on the screen
  • Front or back glass cracked or smashed
  • A dent, a broken camera or speaker, Face ID not working
  • Any battery health
  • Lines, bleeding, blank patches or dead touch: Faulty, screen broken
  • A replacement screen, however good: Faulty, screen broken
  • Will not switch on or charge: we cannot buy it

Our bench checks every phone against the grade you chose. If it does not match, you get a revised price to accept or decline, with a free return either way.

What the damage costs you

Start at £99, which is what a perfect 128 GB fetches. Break the glass and leave the picture alone and you are at £98, down £1. Break the picture, so lines or blotches or nothing at all, and you are at £54, down £45 from where you started. Cracked glass over a working picture is close to free here, which is not true at most places you could send it.

Shown for the 128 GB, the smallest this model came in, so nothing here is higher than the phone you have. On an OLED a failing panel shows as a dark blotch, a burnt in shadow of the keyboard, or a line of pixels that has simply stopped. If you cannot tell, pick the lower grade: a phone that turns out better than you described is upgraded at the bench. Our three grades, explained properly.

Where the iPhone 12 Pro Max sits

That makes the iPhone 12 Pro Max a little below the middle of our range. Of the 32 models with a page like this one, 17 hold a larger share and 13 hold less.

Run the same sum over all 32 of them and a shape appears. Under £50 working, a faulty picture leaves about 41 per cent. At £120 and up it leaves about 57 per cent. The panel has nothing to do with it; the price of the phone has everything to do with it.

Here the cost of the work is starting to be felt. A panel and an afternoon are the same price on an iPhone 12 Pro Max as on a phone worth three times as much, and against this one they take a visible bite, which is why it does not sit up with the dearest models.

Worth knowing before you send it

It is a heavy phone with a big flat front, and gravity has opinions about that combination. The cracks we see on these are usually across a corner rather than the middle.

Zoom is the quick check here. The telephoto is a 65 mm lens, so the camera app labels it 2.5 where the smaller 12 Pro shows 2; tap it and the frame should be crisp, with no haze or dark corner. Apple gave the main camera on this model sensor shift stabilisation, which steadies the image by moving the sensor itself, so film a short walk and the footage should stay smooth. With a cracked back, see whether a MagSafe charger still grips and charges. The band is stainless steel; check its corners for dents. And if the box is gone and you are torn between this and a 13 Pro Max, that zoom button decides it, because the 13 Pro Max reads 3 instead.

Sure it is this one?

6.7 inches, three cameras plus the LiDAR circle, matte back, stainless band. The 13 Pro Max is the same size with the same lens count, so if you are choosing between those two, Settings, General, About is worth the ten seconds.

Every size, broken

Picture gone, this model runs 128 GB £54, 256 GB £59 and 512 GB £64.

Cracked with the picture good, 128 GB £98, 256 GB £98 and 512 GB £98.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max in one paragraph

It is the only iPhone of its year with a physically larger main camera sensor and sensor shift stabilisation, so the camera module out of a broken one is worth more than the one in the 12 Pro.

What happens to a broken one here

Which way an iPhone 12 Pro Max goes is settled once it is open, not before. If what is behind the screen is healthy it gets a new panel and a new owner. If it is not, what works comes off it and keeps other phones of the same age running.

The label is tracked and insured to the value of the quote, the check takes a working day, and the money follows within 48 hours of the phone arriving it.

Questions about broken phones, from wiping one you cannot unlock to what happens if we disagree with your grade, are answered on the broken iPhone page. The whole of this model, working or not, is on the iPhone 12 Pro Max page. Still deciding? Where to sell a broken iPhone in the UK: every option compared.
