£98 with the picture gone, 128 GB

Sell your broken
iPhone 15.

Even with nothing on the screen at all, a 128 GB is £98. That is 52 per cent of the working price rather than the nothing you may have been expecting. An iPhone 15 is dear enough that a broken one still has a great deal of phone left in it, and the number says so.

Condition

  • Touch works everywhere on the screen
  • Front or back glass cracked or smashed

What the damage costs you

Start at £190, which is what a perfect 128 GB fetches. Break the glass and leave the picture alone and you are at £170, down £20. Break the picture, so lines or blotches or nothing at all, and you are at £98, down £92 from where you started. The crack costs something, and a faulty picture costs a good deal more, so it is worth knowing which you have.

Those are 128 GB prices, the bottom of this model's range, so a larger one is worth more rather than less. On an OLED a failing panel shows as a dark blotch, a burnt in shadow of the keyboard, or a line of pixels that has simply stopped. When it is genuinely a toss up, choose the lower grade and let the bench correct it upwards. Our three grades, explained properly.

Where the iPhone 15 sits

That makes the iPhone 15 a little below the middle of our range. 20 of the 32 iPhones on this list come through damage better than that, and 11 come through it worse.

That is not one model being lucky. Sorted by price, the 32 we can price broken fall into two camps: the cheap ones average about 41 per cent kept, the ones from £120 upwards average about 57 per cent, and what separates them is what the working phone is worth rather than what its screen is made of.

An iPhone 15 is on the side of the line where the bench time starts to show. The repair costs what it costs whatever the phone is worth, and on this one it is a noticeable slice rather than a rounding error, which is why the share sits where it does.

Worth knowing before you send it

The USB-C port is the newest part of this phone and the one that gets used most. A port that has stopped charging reliably is a repair, not a write off, and we price it as one.

Sure it is this one?

6.1 inches, USB-C, a Dynamic Island and two rear cameras in a square bump. The 14 before it has the same two lenses but a notch and a Lightning port. The 16 after it moved those two lenses into a tall pill shaped bump.

Every size, broken

Picture gone, this model runs 128 GB £98, 256 GB £115 and 512 GB £115.

Cracked with the picture good, 128 GB £170, 256 GB £190 and 512 GB £195.

The iPhone 15 in one paragraph

The first iPhone with USB-C, and the first non Pro model with the Dynamic Island. Both make it noticeably easier to sell on than the 14 next to it.

What happens to a broken one here

There is a queue of people who would happily own an iPhone 15 once it has a working screen, and that queue is what the price is really based on. We do the repair, we sell it ourselves, and nobody stands in between taking a margin out of your offer.

Postage and the pack are free whatever it turns out to be worth, it is checked within a working day, and you are paid within 48 hours of it arriving.

What to do about the data, the postage and a grade we disagree with is all on the broken iPhone page. Everything else about this phone, damage or no damage, is on the iPhone 15 page. Still deciding? Trade in or sell? What Apple and the networks do not mention.
