£50 with the picture gone, 128 GB

Sell your broken
iPhone 16e.

Smashed, with the picture gone altogether, a 128 GB is worth £50 here: 36 per cent of what the same phone pays working. An iPhone 16e is expensive enough that a broken screen is an inconvenience to the price rather than the end of it.

Condition

What counts as Picture fine

  • Original screen, picture perfect
  • Touch works everywhere on the screen
  • Front or back glass cracked or smashed
  • A dent, a broken camera or speaker, Face ID not working
  • Any battery health
  • Lines, bleeding, blank patches or dead touch: Faulty, screen broken
  • A replacement screen, however good: Faulty, screen broken
  • Will not switch on or charge: we cannot buy it

Our bench checks every phone against the grade you chose. If it does not match, you get a revised price to accept or decline, with a free return either way.

What the damage costs you

Three figures, and the gaps between them are the point. £140 if it is perfect. £127 once the front glass has gone but the display under it still draws a clean image, a drop of £13. £50 once the image itself is wrong, which is £90 off the top. The crack costs something, and a faulty picture costs a good deal more, so it is worth knowing which you have.

Those are 128 GB prices, the bottom of this model's range, so a larger one is worth more rather than less. On an OLED a failing panel shows as a dark blotch, a burnt in shadow of the keyboard, or a line of pixels that has simply stopped. When it is genuinely a toss up, choose the lower grade and let the bench correct it upwards. Our three grades, explained properly.

Where the iPhone 16e sits

That makes the iPhone 16e less than most of the phones we buy. Put the 32 models we can price broken in order and it lands with 26 above it and 5 below.

Across the 32 iPhones we buy and can price broken, the ones worth under £50 working keep about 41 per cent of that price with the picture gone, and the ones worth £120 or more keep about 57 per cent. It is the value of the phone that decides it, not the kind of screen in it.

The reason is not the screen, it is the sums. A display, a test, an erase and a dispatch cost about the same on any phone at all, and against what an iPhone 16e fetches those fixed costs are a large share. The cheaper the phone, the less of it survives the damage.

Worth knowing before you send it

It has no MagSafe magnets, so if a case or a car mount will not hold it, nothing has broken. That is how the phone was built.

There is one lens on the back of a 16e, but Apple made it do the work of two: the 48 megapixel camera also provides a 2x view, so check that 1x and 2x both look sharp. It has no MagSafe, as the note above says, yet it does charge wirelessly on an ordinary Qi pad, and that is the way to prove the coil under a cracked back still works. The button high on the left edge is an Action button rather than a switch; press and hold it, and unless the owner changed it, the phone flips between ring and silent. Face ID lives in the notch, so try unlocking it by face. Apple sold it in matte black and matte white only, and the slot behind a UK one's SIM tray reads A3409.

Sure it is this one?

6.1 inches, a notch across the top and a single rear camera, on a phone that charges over USB-C. The 16 beside it has two lenses and a Dynamic Island. The only other one camera iPhone of this era is the Air, which is 6.5 inches and far thinner.

Every size, broken

Picture gone, this model runs 128 GB £50, 256 GB £57 and 512 GB £62.

Cracked with the picture good, 128 GB £127, 256 GB £159 and 512 GB £164.

The iPhone 16e in one paragraph

The 16e has a notch rather than the Dynamic Island, one rear camera rather than two, and Apple's own C1 modem rather than Qualcomm's. It is the odd one out of its generation in three separate ways.

What happens to a broken one here

An iPhone 16e this new is mended rather than stripped. A panel, a check, an erase, and it is on sale again, so the only thing your accident costs is the part it broke.

Postage and the pack are free whatever it turns out to be worth, it is checked within a working day, and you are paid within 48 hours of it arriving.

The practical questions, erasing a phone you cannot see, posting a bad crack safely, changing your mind, are on the broken iPhone page. For the phone rather than the breakage, see the iPhone 16e page. Still deciding? How to check your iPhone storage size.

Broken iPhones either side of this one

The share beside each name is what that model keeps. Notice how little the panel has to do with the order.
