£190 with the picture gone, 128 GB

Sell your broken
iPhone 16 Pro.

A 128 GB with a faulty display is £190, which is 58 per cent of what we pay for the same phone in one piece. An iPhone 16 Pro is expensive enough that a broken screen is an inconvenience to the price rather than the end of it.

Condition

What counts as Picture fine

  • Touch works everywhere on the screen
  • Front or back glass cracked or smashed
  • A dent, a broken camera or speaker, Face ID not working

  • A replacement screen, however good: Faulty, screen broken
  • Will not switch on or charge: we cannot buy it

What the damage costs you

Start at £330, which is what a perfect 128 GB fetches. Break the glass and leave the picture alone and you are at £310, down £20. Break the picture, so lines or blotches or nothing at all, and you are at £190, down £140 from where you started. Cracked glass over a working picture is close to free here, which is not true at most places you could send it.

The 128 GB is the smallest this phone was sold in and these are its prices, so nothing above can catch you out. On a panel this good a fault is obvious once you look: a green or pink cast, a band that will not refresh, or a line that stays put while everything else moves. Unsure? The lower grade is the safe answer, because we revise upwards without being asked and downwards only in writing. Our three grades, explained properly.

Where the iPhone 16 Pro sits

That makes the iPhone 16 Pro a little above the middle of our range. Put the 32 models we can price broken in order and it lands with 13 above it and 16 below.

Across the 32 iPhones we buy and can price broken, the ones worth under £50 working keep about 41 per cent of that price with the picture gone, and the ones worth £120 or more keep about 57 per cent. It is the value of the phone that decides it, not the kind of screen in it.

The arithmetic behind it is dull and worth knowing. Fitting a panel, testing, erasing and dispatching cost about the same on any phone. An iPhone 16 Pro is worth enough for those fixed costs to be a modest share of it, so the damage takes a modest share of the price.

Worth knowing before you send it

No pattern has shown up on this one yet, which we would rather say than make something up. The practical thing to know is that Apple grew the Pro screen to 6.3 inches here, so a 15 Pro display will not fit a 16 Pro. Different panel, different cost, different price from us.

Check the sound as well as the cameras. Apple fitted this phone with what it calls studio quality microphones and an Audio Mix tool that rebalances voices after recording, so film twenty seconds of yourself talking, play it back, and listen for anything muffled or lopsided. This was also the first of the smaller Pros to carry the 5x telephoto instead of leaving it to the Max, so tap 5 and confirm that lens is clear, then switch to Slo-mo, which records 4K at 120 frames a second here. Its ultra wide, now 48 megapixels, doubles as the macro lens, so try a close up of fine print. Apple offered black, white, natural and desert titanium, and the 15 Pro before it came in a blue titanium this model never had.

Sure it is this one?

6.3 inches, which is a size Apple had not used before this phone: the 15 Pro is 6.1 and the 16 Pro Max is 6.9. Three cameras, a titanium band, USB-C, and the flush camera button on the right hand edge.

Every size, broken

Picture gone, this model runs 128 GB £190, 256 GB £190, 512 GB £190 and 1 TB £190.

Cracked with the picture good, 128 GB £310, 256 GB £334, 512 GB £335 and 1 TB £343.

The iPhone 16 Pro in one paragraph

The first iPhone that records 4K video at 120 frames a second, and the first Pro with the Camera Control on its side.

What happens to a broken one here

It is recent enough that a broken one is a repair rather than a donor, and it is priced on that basis. The screen goes on, the phone is checked, erased and sold, and your damage changes the cost of one part.

Free tracked postage, checked within a working day, paid within 48 hours of it arriving, and erased to recognised standards with the record kept.

The practical questions, erasing a phone you cannot see, posting a bad crack safely, changing your mind, are on the broken iPhone page. For the phone rather than the breakage, see the iPhone 16 Pro page. Still deciding? How to check your iPhone storage size.
